Bio:

From slick hot-rod rockabilly to smooth crooning honky tonk, Nicholas Campbell is the real deal. Inspired by some of the last century’s most iconic country sounds, from Faron Young to Brian Setzer, Campbell first picked up the guitar at age 10 and was gigging by 11. Having found a fresh start during the pandemic, Nicholas began playing consistently with his band, The Two Meter Cheaters, who quickly rediscovered their groove as live shows began to become an option once again—and they wasted no time in seizing the opportunity.

The band worked to release Campbell’s debut album, Livin’ and Other Western Ideas in 2021, combining elements of rockabilly, western swing, and good old-fashioned honky tonk. The result was a brisk, invigorating album that feels as fresh as it does familiar. The band has enjoyed worldwide coverage and airplay since, spanning from Western Canada to Spain, to Italy, and beyond. As live music has begun to blossom again Nicholas has had the opportunity to share the stage with the likes of Melissa Payne, Paul Reddick, Blue Rodeo and plenty of other artists. With Campbell’s new singles and the album to come, Gonna Have A Ball Tonight, the group has shifted their tone to include a more rock n’ roll-centric sound, adding a renewed breath of energy and excitement to Campbell’s signature country sensibilities.

Brandon Santini’s Bio:

There are many different opinions as to what the future of the blues harmonica will be. International touring vocalist and harmonica player Brandon Santini is undeniably a worthy player to keep an eye on as the latest surge of young blues artists leave their footprint in blues history. His name is worthy of conversations that include James Cotton, Kim Wilson, Dennis Gruenling, Charlie Musselwhite and other frontline harmonica players by combining his love and respect for traditional blues with a present, colorful style of playing that is often compared to James Cotton or Paul Butterfield. Raised in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, Santini purchased his first harmonica in 1997 at the age of fifteen when his mother took him to the local music store upon his request. He founded the Blues Music Award nominated band Delta Highway in 2003 and relocated to Memphis where he absorbed the sounds and culture of the Delta and North Mississippi Hill Country, honing his craft night after night, sweating it out in local Beale Street clubs just like Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, and B.B. King did decades before him. Now playing over 100 shows per year throughout the world, Santini has garnered five Blues Music Award nominations, festival headlining slots and even performing on stage with the likes of Buddy Guy and Gary Clark, Jr.

Brandon Santini’s latest release, The Longshot, from the American Showplace Music label takes listeners on a slight detour from the traditional blues highway he has logged many miles on. One may not be surprised that the 36 year old vocalist and harmonica player is influenced and inspired by legendary rock artists such as The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Allman Brothers Band and Creedence Clearwater Revival just as much as Little Walter, Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf. From the ferocious opener, “Don’t Come Around Here” to the embattled acoustic American driven, “Broken Bones,” Santini ties his blues and rock influences together to deliver an energetic album of introspective heartbreak and lament.

Little Magic Sam Bio:

When the world gets down on Little Magic Sam, he gets down on a Les Paul. Hailing from St.Thomas, ON, Sam Taylor is a born entertainer with a penchant for raw blues and soul music and lyrics that bely someone much older than his 31 years. With an enormous stage presence, it comes as no surprise that this multi-talented singer/songwriter has been performing internationally since the age of 7.

After graduating from Fanshawe College with a diploma in Music Industry Arts, Sam headed into EMAC Studios with producer Moe Berg (of Pursuit of Happiness) on two original songs; Thought of Leaving and Loaded Gun, both of which received airplay across Southern Ontario. Loaded Gun has also been featured in the tv shows Haven, Cracked, and Degrassi. Sam’s versatile and honest songwriting gives his music the emotional edge that sets him apart as a talented up and comer. He has shared the stage with Chuck Leavell (The Rolling Stones), Gordon Lightfoot, and Whitehorse in Canada as well as with Chicago blues legends Linsey Alexander, Claudette Miller and Mary Lane.

Little Magic Sam was thrilled to get the opportunity to record what would become his debut E.P. at the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, TN. "Memphis Midnight Sun" was released in 2019 and was also produced by Moe Berg.

In May 2023, the Little Magic Sam Band released a new six song E.P. of original Chicago blues called, "Step Back". This album was recorded to mono tape at Jimmy Bowskill (The Sheepdogs, Blue Rodeo)'s Ganaraska Recording Co. using only vintage and antique equipment and mixed by blues maestro Steve Marriner. "Step Back" is available now on 180 gram translucent blue vinyl and CD.

In February 2024, the Little Magic Sam Band was honoured to have won the Maple Blues Award for "New Artist or Group of the Year" and would like to thank everyone who took the time to cast their vote in support of the band.

Lowdown Dirty Mojos Bio:

The Blues and the South… Well let me tell you something. We’re from the south… Southern Ontario. You may chuckle about that but Southern Ontario has a long rich history when it comes to Blues, R’n’B and Roots. Ronnie Hawkins and Levon Helm both moved here from the southern US and found success. Since then many Artists & Bands from here have developed their skills and have prospered. Here’s a short but powerful list: The Band, Crowbar,

King Biscuit Boy, Downchild, Paul James & Jack de Keyzer.

LOWDOWN DIRTY MOJOS play their own brand of uniquely original 60’s influenced R’n’B and Blues, through the skillful songwriting of Paul Wootton & Paul and Stephen Foster.

Here’s how it Happened

During a break at a recording session in 2018, Paul Wootton and Stephen Foster were watching music videos, when a 1966 video of Muddy Waters and his band playing Got My Mojo Workin’ came on. A lightbulb went off and they realized that that was what they should be doing… So with Stephen Foster engineering they set about recording their 1st. album Screamin’ Hoodoo R’n’B and LOWDOWN DIRTY MOJOS was born. They used 16 different Hamilton musicians including players from King Biscuit Boy, Junkhouse, Simply Saucer and The Shakers to complete the album which was released on Vinyl & CD in 2019. A full band was formed and honed their sound in numerous clubs in Hamilton and a variety of local festivals.

COVID curbed the bands ability to play live so they set about recording their 2nd album. Stone Cold Groovers was released in 2021 on CD and all digital platforms and the band was nominated and WON! a Maple Blues Award,

New Artist of the Year. Again affected by COVID it was not awarded until 2022. They received major blues radio airplay for Stone Cold Groovers across the nation, conducting interviews on major radio shows like Holger Petersens CBC Saturday Night Blues, BluesSource with Ken Wallis and At The Crossroads Blues Radio with Brant Zwicker.

The Mojos have been busy playing live shows at clubs and festivals including Hamiltons It’s Your Festival, Dundas Cactus Festival, London Ribfest, The Ancaster Fair & Grand River Arts Festival.

LOWDOWN DIRTY MOJOS have just released their 3rd album Down’n’Dirty on CD and all digital platforms, currently receiving lots of radio airplay across Canada and Internationally too. They’re also currently expanding live shows into the Niagara, Kitchener & Toronto markets and are hoping to embark on a short tour of British Columbia and western Canada later this year.

Spencer’s Bio:

With his fluid phrasing, resonant tone, and expressive performances, one could believe Spencer Mackenzie was born on Beale Street. They, however, would be wrong. The lauded JUNO-nominated blues-rock artist hails from Southern Ontario and has steadily earned accolades, and the attention of blues aficionados worldwide, since his first studio album in 2016. Leaving nothing behind when he steps to the stage, Mackenzie offers showgoers a powerhouse performance, commanding his guitar with sophistication and prowess beyond his years.

For nearly a decade, Spencer Mackenzie has been writing and recording true blues, showcasing the raw emotion and honesty the genre demands. There’s a familiarity and ease with which he approaches the music, almost as though it flows through rather than from him. In song, he connects with the storied past of blues music, lyrically navigating through his pain to find purpose and the promise of tomorrow. The energy of his work is infectious, permeating through the listener until they, too, feel the heartbeat of the blues.

Upon the release of his third studio album, 2022’s Preach To My Soul (Gypsy Soul Records), Spencer hit the highway for a string of successful shows throughout Canada. Striking, confident, and compelling in its maturity, his third effort was produced/engineered and mixed by Emmy award-winning producer Ross Hayes-Citrullo at RHC Music in Toronto. Joined by some of Canada’s top talents, including JUNO winner Steve Strongman, Preach To My Soul tears from the speakers with grit and gusto. After countless hours studying the bends and bellows of B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Buddy Guy, Spencer wears his influences on his sleeve, channelling his reverence for the bluesmen who came before him into the title track. Over the album’s ten songs, Mackenzie offers listeners a transportive experience, sonically guiding them from the smoky juke joints of the Deep South to the rowdy roadhouses of rural America.

Playing with an undeniable joy and passion that is heard and seen Mackenzie showcases mastery over his instrument. Though many before him have wielded six strings, few can make them sing. Pairing a crisp, clean tone with throaty, rich vocals, Spencer channels the spirit of the Delta, conjuring emotive performances with hair-raising effect. Punchy riffs strike driving rhythms, supported by soaring organ and pulsing bass, making for a lively listen. With crossover into roots and soul, the songwriter and Maple Blues award winner will find appreciation from fans of Joe Bonamassa, Gary Clark Jr., and Marcus King.

Stepping into 2023 with numerous Canadian, European, and US dates booked, the left-handed guitar slinger shows no signs of slowing down. In his short career, he has proven he can captivate audiences and hold the stage like a seasoned veteran. There’s no denying “this feels like the beginning of something big, maybe even huge” (Gonzo Okanagan). Lending vibrant, youthful energy to the genre, Spencer Mackenzie is putting his stamp on the blues, sure to inspire the next generation of blues rockers with his signature, seemingly effortless style along the way.

$45 PER PERSON. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED. RESERVATIONS CAN BE MADE BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 4:00 - 7:00. limited numbrer of guests.

Please, continue to read, if ya’ll would like to know more about what inspired this idea.

I am the owner of Front Porch, and the self proclaimed, self appointed, ‘Mississippi Queen’. I come from the backwoods on south, south, Mississippi, about an hour, or so, to the northeast, of New Orleans, a place so deep in the woods, my Mamma used to say, ‘we had to pump the sunshine in’.

It’s an area, surrounded by low lying regions, of swamplands, bayous, and of course, the Gulf of Mexico, to the very south, and, the Mississippi Delta region, to the northwest. This area is well known as a culinary hotbed for ‘soul food’.

As we know, soul food originated with rural, poor folks, out of times of struggles, and strife, slavery, and poverty. Soul food came about, as a necessary means, of feeding one’s family, of putting food on that table, and it had to be done, with little, to no means.

I came up like this. I only know how to make ‘soul food’. Soul food is comfort food. I never referred to it, as such, coming up. It was just what we made, and what we ate, and what we knew. I have been wanting, and needing, to lean into my deep, Mississippi roots, and make the food, that’s next to my own soul, and make the food, how I know, it is, to be made.

Thing is, I’m often making food ‘in volume’, and sometimes, ‘as per requests’, which means I skip over certain dishes, just because they become too labour intensive, at a certain volume. So, with those thoughts in mind, I have come up with an idea, that will allow me, the opportunity, to make some of my down home, backwoods, ‘Mississippi Soul Food’, for a limited number of guests.

I invite ya’ll, to please join me, as a Taster, at my Table, to enjoy some Mississippi Soul Food, in an authentic, kind of way.

I’m gonna play some blues, for ya’ll, from my vinyl collection, with intent, of creating a culinary experience, for ya’ll to enjoy. This will give me, that opportunity, and outlet, to be that Southern woman, cooking all day, just like my Granny did, and welcome ya’ll, end of the day, to my table, to sit back, to taste, relax, enjoy, the food, and most importantly, to comfort your soul.

Southern Supper with Dan Walsh "Beardzone"

Dan is a multi-instrumentalist, who fills up the stage, on his own. He’s got this hypnotic loop, to his sound. Reminds me of North Mississippi Hill Country style.
— the Mississippi Queen

Doors open at 1:00. The buffet and music will will get started at 2:00 - 5:00.

This is not a ticketed event. HOWEVER, RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED.

BUFFET Menu Details:

brisket; buttermilk fried chicken (mix of pieces); Baked mac n’ cheese; bbq beans cooked with brisket; MASHED POTATOES WITH GRAVY; coleslaw; buttermilk cornbread; peach cobbler; mississippi mud cake; and, luzianne iced tea.

Reservations ARE REQUIRED, by email at reservations@frontporchsouthernkitchen.com, or by phone, at 226-397-1223.  Price is $55 per person, for food and music.

Bio:

Canadian singer/songwriter multi-instrumentalist, Dan Walsh is already well known for his collaborations with a number of talented musicians. He’s added his bluesy-bluegrass signature style to more than 40 albums and toured across North America, Europe and Australia.

For many years Walsh was a key member of Fred Eaglesmith’s band, The Flying Squirrels, where he played more than a couple of hundred gigs a year and shared the stage with the likes of Willie Nelson, Little Feat, Delbert McClinton, Willie P. Bennett and the Del McCoury Band.

In 2012, Walsh re-invented himself as a solo looping artist and released his 3rd solo album entitled “Outta The Jam.” Adam Dawson from Broken Jukebox writes:

“Outta The Jam is technically the third release from sideman extraordinaire, Walsh, but it’s the first one the bearded one sings on. The addition of vocals is a major plus to me as instrumental music gets really boring really fast no matter how great it is. While the instrumentation, specifically Walsh’s flawless guitar work, is still the star on this one, his songwriting and vocals are a welcome addition.

The presiding sound of the record to me, is fantastic white guy funk teamed with gritty Warren Haynes like slide guitar riffs. The songs themselves range from the silly, playful “Beard”, an ode to Walsh’s defining physical feature, to the seriously, personal “Naked Emperor” and “Our Stairs” which documents the feelings in the aftermath of a failed relationship.

I was impressed throughout the entire album with Walsh’s previously missing vocal talents and his ability to find the right sounds to perfectly compliment them”.

Since going solo, Walsh has performed over 1000 shows across North America, Europe & Asia including opening for Ike Stubblefield and Col. Bruce Hampton.

This experience of having to incorporate harmonica into some of these non-traditional roles helped form his melodic approach to playing and define his unique style. As Roly puts it, “None of the songs these bands would play had any harp in the original versions, so I had to quickly figure out something that “worked” and sounded pretty good, or I’d be out of work. That was the best musical schooling anyone could have asked for.”

Roly’s distinctive sound, versatility, and intuitive sense of “what works”, has elevated him to “first-call” studio harmonica player in the Canadian recording scene. Roly had been recorded on over 1,700 individual album cuts, movie scores and national jingles and is now working on sessions for clients from around the globe via his home studio.
